Beyond being the location of the Bodenwald parliament, Gachersteig is mainly known for its numerous beer gardens, outdoor venues where guests are served beer and food at large, communal wooden benches and tables - perhaps appropriately so, since beer and politics tend to be strongly linked in Bodenwald, and the mood at the beer gardens is keenly observed by the parliamentarians. Indeed, many of them attend ceremonial openings of new batches of beer which many beer gardens celebrate annually. The most famous of these occurs at the Klopferhügel beer garden, where the opening of the barrels is accompanied by guest speakers who hold speeches full of biting satire of Bodenwald politicians, aristocrats, and other members of high society. Naturally, nobody who is anyone in Bodenwald society wants to miss this event, and tickets are sold out well in advance.
