River of Blood
rating: 0+x

A subterranean waterway winding through the depths of Terra Profunda, the River of Blood is named for its red hue deriving from mineral deposits near its source. A multitude of phosphorescent organisms thrive on those minerals, giving the whole river the appearance of an artery connecting the subterranean realms - which is not far from the truth, as the river is navigable for much of its stretch and used by those who dwell below for trade. Locks have been carved into the bedrock at major rapids, allowing barges to bypass them, though the barge captains have to pay fees and bribes to their operators, just as they have to come to an understanding with the owners of the various fortresses which dot the river banks.
