The Torwall district is centered along a long, narrow hill created by ancient earth magics to the north of the city core. In the Feudal Age it formed an important defensive line against any invaders from the north and a wall was built along its length - though not on top of it, as that space was already occupied by the Tore der Morgenröte, a set of magical gates as old as the hill itself. Eventually the city expanded to include the hill, though thanks to the magical phenomena associated with the gates the district remained fairly poor. In recent decades, however, many buildings were demolished or refurbished and now house many departments of the local university, with many of the rest dedicated to the housing and other needs of the growing student population.
